My career, first in journalism, and now in public service, shaped a lot of how I think.
One thing has stayed constant through all of it: a belief that people thrive and are empowered when they are given access to knowledge, support and someone who genuinely believes in them.
At the National Library Board where I now work, libraries are not just buildings; they are equalisers. Seeing how access to reading and learning could transform someone's confidence, their choices, their future, that made the purpose of my work very real for me.
Alongside that, I have had the privilege of walking with people through career transitions and explorations. Career coaching, for me, is about sitting with someone in the uncertainty and helping them find their own footing.
And volunteering. I think it is one of the most underrated ways to grow as a person while contributing to something bigger than yourself. Part of what I hope to do is simply lower the barriers for people who want to help but do not know where to begin.
